Claims
Any organisation within the events industry may claim compliance with BS 8801 if their involvement in events meets the relevant requirements of the standard.
Compliance can only be claimed with respect to those activities that the organisation is accountable for and that are within the scope of the management system.
Claims of compliance apply specifically to the management system and not to the event and take the following form: “The sustainability management system operated by (name of organisation) conforms to BS 8901”
With respect to a specific event, only organisations with overall accountability for the event can claim that the event has been managed in accordance with this standard. In this situation, the claim of compliance would be: “The sustainability management system operated by (name of organisation accountable for event) used to plan and deliver (name of event) conforms to BS 8901.”
Complying with the standard does not enable organisations to claim that their events are sustainable.
