To achieve certification, your sustainable event management system needs to be subjected to an audit..
This audit, carried out by Sustainable Event Certification (SEC) will determine:
- Whether your sustainable event management system meets the requirements specified in BS 8901
- Whether there is evidence showing that your sustainable event management system is operating effectively
Our traditional approach to providing the certification service is as follows:
- You contact SEC to enquire about certification
- SEC issues you with a pre-audit questionnaire – this is a very simple questionnaire designed to determine if you are ready for certification and ascertaining the scope of the certification assessment
- Optional Pre-Certification visit – in some situations, it may be advisable to have a pre-certification visit to run through the standard and certification process, assist you in preparing and determine that you are indeed ready for certification
- SEC issues you with a quote for the work indicating expected duration and cost
- Optional Desk-top Review – in some situations, it may be possible to complete much of the certification by simply reviewing your documentation – this can be done remotely without the need for a site visit. Omissions or weaknesses will be identified and this will enable you to initiate corrections prior to the certification visit
- Certification visit – the nature of this will depend on:
- Whether the client is the event client/event organiser or a supplier
- Whether the certification is required for a sustainable event management system for:
-- One-off event
-- Recurring event
-- All events
- Whether the certification is to be Phased - a separate certificate can be issued after the successful completion of each Phase - this may require separate visit
- Report - we will issue you with a formal report identifying strengths and weaknesses in your management system
- Certification – should there be no significant issues during the certification visit, we will issue you with a BS 8901 certificate which will be valid for 3 years (except in the case of a one-off event where the certification will last only for the duration of the event).
- Follow-up visits on a frequency determined with you to ensure your system is still in compliance with the standard and that improvements are being made.
